Working in rural areas provide different challenges for NPs. Identifying common health concerns in our patients is easy. Finding ways to address these health concerns are not. Jeannie Daku, a NP working in Carlyle, was able to do this by utilizing contacts made over the years and organizing a Women's Wellness Day. A statement issued by College of Midwifery dated January 2012 had Nurse Practitioners (NP's) concerned about their scope of practice in relation to everyday obstetrical situations such as diagnosing pregnancy, prenatal check ups in shared care, and postpartum check ups. SANP members posed questions with the Saskatchewan College of Midwives, management, Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association (SRNA), the Ministry of Health and the Canadian Nurses Protective Society (CNPS). All responses agreed that NP's can continue to practice prenatal and postpartum care.

Members of SUN have voted 92.4% in favor of ratifying a two year Collective Agreement with SAHO. The collective agreement was negotiated concurrently with a new tripartite agreement between SUN, the Ministry of Health, and the Regional Health Authorities. The tripartite agreement reflects the collaborative spirit Nurse Practitioners (NP's) helped create in last year's Primary Health Care Re-design process and plan.
