The Saskatchewan Association of Nurse Practitioners (SANP) and the Nurse Practitioners of Saskatchewan (NPOS) held the 8th Annual Nurse Practitioner Education Conference April 20-21, 2012 at the German Concordia Club in Saskatoon. An outstanding two thirds of the province's Nurse Practitioners (NP's) attended. Activities included the Annual General Meetings of SANP and NPOS, the gala NP leadership celebration and award night, and enlightening clinical sessions.
Annual meeting minutes and reports, as well as membership renewals may be accessed at the NPOS site http://www.npos.ca/ and the SANP site http://www.sasknursepractitioner.org/home
Expert presentations included clinical topics on preventing amputation in people with diabetes, atrial fibrillation guidelines-2010, Sk Cancer Agency colorectal screening and cervical screening programs, older adult drivers, functional abdominal pain, as well as issues in advanced nursing practice.
The first NP education event was, in true Saskatchewan style, organized early in NP history, just one year after the first NP's were licensed. With humble beginnings in a SIAST classroom, the event has evolved to a high calibre educational attraction. Watch for the 2013 9th Annual NP Education Conference.
