Registered Nurse (Certified) to replace Transfer of Medical Function

The Saskatchewan Registered Nurses’ Association (SRNA) is asking for feedback to some draft documents for Registered Nurse Certified Practice RN(C).  These documents are planned to provide support for nurses presently working under the 1993 Transfer of Medical Function process that will terminate by the end of 2013.

The competency and bylaws document are planned to also support nurses who may begin to provide increased access to health care services that that may not exist.  The SRNA states that “the availability of RNs with additional education and training in communities challenged by access to health care would serve to address the need for timely access to health care services in these areas, and contribute to a sustainable and effective health care system.”

The first group that the SRNA plans to certify are primary care nurses however other certifications are planned for the future.  The SANP executive strongly recommends that all nurse practitioners review the documents and provide feedback.  Please go to http://www.srna.org/component/content/article/207 to do so.  The SRNA asks for feedback by January 9, 2012.
