NP Celebrated for Expertise in Diabetes


Jone_Barry On May 14, 2011, Jone Barry RN(NP) was awarded the Regional Camp Award for North Saskatchewan 2011 at the Canadian Diabetes Association Annual regional meeting in Regina. Jone has been attending the annual Saskatchewan Diabetes Kids Camp since 2008 and was the first NP to work at this Camp.


Jone helps to organize the camper’s medications for the week and assess and treat any illnesses that present through the day. Before meals, Jone works with a team to help monitor blood glucose and insulin with the kids. The one week camp has approximately 65 children from 8-14 years old with Type 1 diabetes.  Presently Jone works as an NP with Saskatoon Community Clinic and is acting chair/ vice-chair for NPOS and Secretary for the Canadian Association Advanced Practice Nurses NP Council.  Her work was recently showcased in this Perspectives Article
